Examinations make students nervous, which is understandable considering that it’s their chance to show how hard they have been working in school. For an adult student, exams can prove to be challenging because they have to manage several things at a go. Now more than ever, students are not just required to have knowledge, but they should demonstrate their abilities. Here are a few tips to get you through the exam period.

1. Slow down
During the exam room, some students rush because they underestimate the time they have. This results in them making sloppy mistakes. When you slow down or pause for a while, you will allow yourself to assess the situation fully and develop a plan to decide the appropriate course of action.

2. Listen to music
If you are feeling nervous, consider listening to chilled music. When you do this, it will help calm your nerves and allow you to relax. When we listen to music, our heart rate will reduce and our moods improve. In a recent research, listening to soothing music was found to have long-term advantages that can be likened to the effect of an anxious person getting a massage.

3. Drink some water
When one is stressed, they tend to have a dry mouth. If this happens to you in the exam room, it’s an indication that you are nervous. This creates a vicious cycle, whereby you are stressed; you get a dry mouth, and then become more stressed because you have a dry mouth. The best way out is to drink some water. Sipping water will help do away with the physiological sign of nerves and help enhance memory and concentration.

4. Nerves are not that bad
When you are nervous, you are likely to focus better and prepare more thoroughly. In some situations, worry helps one to prepare better. The most important thing is to ensure that your worry doesn’t go overboard.
